In May
1994, Kingsley Smith decided to realize a long-held ambition
- the establishment of his own management development company,
Management Development Asia-Pacific - mda - initially based
in Hong Kong.
Since the founding of mda, the
company has worked for eighty-three clients across Asia-Pacific,
and has offices in Hong Kong, Brisbane, Bangkok and New
Delhi.
Apart from mda, Kingsley is involved
in counseling Australian business on exporting to Asia
(Asian Foresight) and in writing for business. His most
recent commissions are a book on Marketing for Australian
Small Businesses and a Negotiation Skills handbook, published
in July 2002.
Prior to founding mda, Kingsley
spent most of his career in international advertising
and marketing, being exposed to many business issues in
a number of markets, working with clients such as Unilever,
Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola, Cathay Pacific and Bank
of America. He has worked in everything from airlines
to detergents, furniture to cognac. His last agency post
was Chairman and Managing Director of McCann-Erickson
in Hong Kong, where he totally rebuilt the agency, growing
it from #9 to #5 in the market in four years, and improving
profits by over 200%.
