Egg-cellent brand innovation

eggsoft.jpg
Branding commodities is always a huge challenge, product innovation (even in packaging) can help. UK-based Lion Quality Eggs have achieved that, and more.

You can now buy eggs marked with 'thermochromatic' invisible ink. The inks have been created to appear after three minutes to indicate a soft-boiled egg, after four minutes for medium and after seven minutes for a hard-boiled egg.

It could be an answer to the prayers of people who, quite literally, cannot boil an egg.

That is positively brilliant! ... one of those things you wish you'd have thought of.

I love the idea that the logo appears when the eggs are boiled. In the US, Promo magazine reported that a US Company, EggFusion has signed a deal with CBS TV to promote its fall line up on laser etched eggs.

One additional benefit of the laser is that the design is etched on the shell. Because shoppers usually open the egg carton when selecting the eggs and the checker usually opens it again, there are additional opportunities for exposure.

The service was first used to add freshness dates to the eggs. I'm not sure if I like the idea from a personal food consumption perspective, but it sure is an egg-cellent idea for marketing.
