Creative Thinking

The three components of business creativity

All of the articles in this section of the website look at creative thinking skills, but research by Teresa Amabile suggests that two other components are required if you want to be creative in the workplace.

It is not just creative thinking skills; you and your team also need expertise and motivation.

·
Creative thinking skills: how you approach the problem
·
Expertise: knowledge and understanding (technical, procedural, and intellectual)
·
Motivation: the desire to solve a problem or exploit an opportunity

Ask yourself:
How do I (and my team) perform against each component?
In which area do we need to work harder to improve our business creativity?
